Live rat tubules
3D reconstruction of a volume collected in the kidney of a living rat using 2 photon microscopy. The rat was injected with a 500Kd green dextran, Hoechst and Texas-Red gentamicin. The large dextran is retained in the capillaries, while the gentamicin is filtered into the renal tubules where it is endocytosed in proximal tubules and concentrated in the lumen of distal tubules.
